Founded in 1907, for which plans are being put in place to celebrate our centenary in 2007, Basingstoke Golf Club has been at our present location in Basingstoke since 1928 when the 6343 yard course, designed by James Braid, was opened on the 29th March of that year. The course is set in 110 acres of deer park and features many mature native British trees. Basingstoke is a members' club with 700 golfing members. Our new clubhouse opened in 1998 and is a purpose built building on one level, offering excellent hospitality with a fully licensed Bar and Restaurant, both of which are open 7 days a week. Also incorporated is the well stocked Professional's Shop. Visitors with a current handicap certificate are offered a warm welcome between Monday and Friday and the Club also caters for societies, corporate golf and corporate events, as well as the green fee player. The course at Basingstoke Golf Club was designed in the early 1920's by James Braid, a recognised Golf Architect of high quality golf courses. He applied his design skills to provide an interesting and challenging course, which is formed on soil ranging from gravel to clay over chalk. The 6343 yard par 70 course opened in 1928. It is set in 110 acres of a former deer park and is an old established, traditional English parkland course featuring many well-established native British trees. It is easy walking with no steep hills, and is particularly suited for all ages and standards of golfer. The course has been modernised over the years in keeping with modern golf practices, is excellently maintained and is considered to be one of the leading courses in Hampshire. During the autumn of 2003 all of the bunkers on the course were reconstructed to the same high standard in the cape and bay style. Some have been removed, some moved and constructed in new positions and some reconstructed in their existing positions. All have been filled with the same sand to a uniform depth. Consequently, as well as providing a test of golf to visitors who have not played Basingstoke before, new challenges await those who know us well..........
